Our name and logo hints at the three founders’ Hong Kong past whilst also nodding to our broad musical tastes and inclusive perspectives. Umbrella Vinyl cares about the planet and we are committed to minimising our environmental impact.

Which genres of records do you stock?

We stock second hand records in a wide range of genres including Jazz, Blues, Funk, Soul, Latin, Afrobeat, Highlife, Ska, Reggae, Dub, World, Experimental, Soundtracks, Bollywood and Library Music! In addition, we stock a selection of new records from local artists and labels.

Do you clean the records you sell?

Yes, we clean all of our LPs, 12” and 10” records in a Humminguru ultrasonic cleaner using distilled water. Our 7” records are hand-cleaned with Near Mint record cleaning fluid. Once cleaned each record is re-sleeved in a new paper inner and a clear plastic outer sleeve.

How do you grade your stock?

All records, sleeves and inserts are visually inspected. Every record is then play-graded by one of us – LPs, 12”s, 10”s and 7”s . We then assign grades according to the industry-recognised Goldmine Standard. If you have any questions about the grading of any particular record please ask!

Do you buy records?

Absolutely! We purchase records within the genres that we stock at Umbrella Vinyl. Please contact us to discuss.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes, you can buy gift vouchers from £5 upwards that can be redeemed in store, or over the telephone. We’ll send it in one of our custom designed gift cards. If you’d like us to include a personal message please mention it at checkout.

What if I don’t see what I want on your website?

Umbrella Vinyl is a bricks-and-mortar record shop and we have new arrivals into the bins daily – not everything we have gets onto the website! You can check our social media posts (Instagram, Facebook) or better still contact us directly if you can’t see what you are looking for.

What happens after I have placed my order?

We aim to process orders on the same or the next business day – bear in mind we are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Records are hand-packed in purpose-made, corrugated-card mailers. We use Royal Mail Tracked services – different options are available depending on your shipping address at checkout. In the unlikely event that there are any issues with your order we will contact you promptly. Once we’ve been to the Post Office we’ll send you your tracking details.

What if I am not happy with my purchase?

Josh, Laura and Nick want your shopping experience to be the best possible. If for any reason you are unhappy then please do reach out to us and we will do our utmost to resolve it as quickly as possible.
